MBC Establishes STEM-H Scholarship for Community College Students in Southern Virginia
Scholarship will allow students to further their education in STEM-H fields

South Boston, VA – July 7, 2015 – Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation (MBC) announced today that it has established a scholarship for students that are furthering their education in a STEM-H field at one of the four community colleges located in Southern Virginia.  Central Virginia Community College (CVCC), Danville Community College (DCC), Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC), and Southside Virginia Community College (SVCC) will all receive $5,000 to distribute as they see would best benefit students studying in STEM-H fields at their college.

“We are thrilled to be able to help provide educational opportunities for students studying in STEM-H fields at these four colleges,” said Tad Deriso, MBC President and CEO.  “The students studying there today are preparing themselves for next generation careers.  MBC wants to ensure that our region is prepared for current and future employment opportunities that are being made available by high-tech companies in Southern Virginia.”

A student enrolled at any of these four community colleges is eligible for this scholarship if he or she maintained a high school GPA of 3.2 or higher and is a graduate of one of the thirty-three high schools located in the Southside Tobacco Region within the MBC footprint.

The scholarship will be available to students beginning in the fall semester.
