MBC Sponsors Local Community Clubs and Organizations for Fourth Year
Contributions Given to 18 Local YMCAs, Boys & Girls Clubs, and Head Start Programs

South Boston, VA – July 27, 2015 – This year marks the fourth year in which Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities Corporation (MBC) has been a sponsor of eighteen local community clubs and organizations within the MBC footprint.  Three Boys & Girls Clubs, five Head Start programs, and ten YMCAs were each recipients of a $2,500 contribution to help them to continue to provide meaningful experiences for all who benefit from these organizations.

The Boys & Girls Clubs that were supported include the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Danville Area, the Blue Ridge, and Emporia/Greensville County.  The mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of America is “to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.”

The five Head Start programs receiving contributions were CDI Head Start Serving Central Virginia in Farmville, Pittsylvania County Community Action Agency in Chatham, Tri-County Community Action, Inc. in South Boston, The Improvement Association in Emporia, and STEP, Inc. in Rocky Mount.  Head Start programs promote the school readiness of young children from low-income families.

The YMCAs included were YMCA of South Boston and Halifax County, Mecklenburg County YMCA, South Hill YMCA, Danville YMCA, Altavista Area YMCA, Southside Virginia Family YMCA in Farmville, Martinsville and Henry County Family YMCA, Bedford Area Family YMCA, Family YMCA of Emporia/Greensville, and Franklin County Family YMCA.  As an organization, the YMCA focuses on the development of youth, healthy living, and social responsibility.
