On May 22nd, Ms. Julia Scott, a Halifax County High School senior, was awarded the fourth scholarship.  During her time in high school, she has been a member of the HCHS Envirothon Team, Ecology Team, and Latin Club, where she has been recipient of multiple honors, and Helping Hands.  She has also been a Junior Volunteer in the Pharmacy department at Halifax Regional Health System and has given of her time to help many other community organizations.  Julia will begin her studies in Chemistry/Pre-Pharmacy this fall at the University of Virginia to kindle her vision of becoming a Pharmacist.

The fifth scholarship was awarded to Ms. Rachel Jones, a Dinwiddie High School senior, on June 4th.  She was active in high school, competing in volleyball and as a member of the FFA, the Horsekateers 4-H Club, the Student Council Association, as well as multiple other school clubs.  Rachel is also active in her church and her community, participating in many organizations, including giving of her time and talents through teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and with special education students through helping with holiday parties and Special Olympics.  She will be majoring in Nursing starting this fall at Radford University to further her devout dream of becoming a nurse.

We would like to congratulate the 2013 MBC scholarship recipients and all applicants on their many accomplishments and wish them the best of luck as they further their education to fulfill their life goals.  MBC continues to reinvest in the communities we serve, and awarding these scholarships is one way we reinvest while encouraging STEM-related education in the region.
